Wayfarers at Springfield Court

Springfield Court Nursing Home is a privately owned care home situated in the heart of rural Lancashire. The standard of care they offer to their residents has led to them being awarded an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. The number of care homes in the UK which have been awarded this can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

The Wayfarers Chorus have sung at Springfield Court on a number of occasions and this year we were pleased to be invited back to sing at their annual ‘Afternoon Tea’ event. This is an opportunity for residents and their guests to get together and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, tea and cake (plus sandwiches).

On such a special occasion it was gratifying that the majority of the chorus were able to attend. In fact, there were so many members present that we barely fit on the risers! Plentiful as we were though, we were well outnumbered by the audience, who packed the room (I’m sure it was the attraction of our singing rather than the temptation of all those calories).

The Wayfarers sang two sets from our repertoire, mixing old and (slighly) newer numbers with a blend of upbeat songs and ballads. All of the chorus members returned for the second set, despite the presence of cakes in our warm-up room.

It’s always an enjoyable experience to sing for an appreciative audience and we always get a good reception at Springfield Court. So far we haven’t left anybody behind, but the offer is always there!
