Wayfarers Learn To Sing In Harmony Course – Week 1
After months of preparation and weeks of advertising, the Learn To Sing course finally arrived last night (Tuesday 10 April). A really good turn out of 26 students were welcomed by our members and organised into vocal ranges, to help decide which voice part they were going to try out.
After organising everybody into voice parts, we learned a tag and then moved onto the first of our two course songs – In My Life. The voice parts were split into ‘sectionals’ to allow focus on their notes and then we all gathered together once more to sing it ‘in harmony’.
Considering our students had never before had the opportunity to sing this song in a group and in harmony, the chorus members were seriously impressed by how much progress was made with the song. In fact, after just 30 minutes of practice the entire body of chorus and students were able to sing it almost all the way to the end of the song!
This week’s craft session concentrated upon posture and breathing, two of the foundations for good singing technique. The next time you see a singer with a bulging stomach they are not overweight, just relaxing their diaphragm to make maximum room for air!
Students and members alike all enjoyed the evening and are all looking forward to week 2!
