Wayfarers Donate to Soup Kitchen

Wayfarers present £500 chequeOn 17 July, The Wayfarers Chorus of Southport presented a cheque for £500 to the Southport Soup Kitchen.  The Wayfarers are a Barbershop chorus who regularly perform at various charity and private functions and have in the past provided charitable donations not just to the Soup Kitchen, but also other charities including Queenscourt Hospice and Macmillan Nurses.

The £500 donation was received by Justin Dempster, a trustee of The Southport Soup Kitchen.  Mr. Dempster told the chorus that some of the money would be used as a deposit to provide accommodation to a homeless person.  Most of the balance will be used to purchase sleeping bags for the homeless and essential food & toiletries for families struggling to live on very low incomes.

The Soup Kitchen now provide hot meals for 40-50 people during the week and 60-70 on Saturdays and Sundays.  Thanks to the generosity of Lathoms and The Dutch Bakery they are also able to supply pies and bread, some of which is taken out late on Saturday nights, to the homeless people on the street.  On Saturdays and Sundays sandwiches and small parcels are also provided to people who visit the Soup Kitchen.

The Soup Kitchen are a totally voluntary organisation and rely upon public donations to provide these services to people who desperately need it.
